Whither God Leadeth

I leadeth the blind by ways they have not known, and guideth them in paths unfamiliar and untrod. Their darkness I turneth to light before them, and the crooked way I maketh straight. Surely these things I performeth for them, and I faileth not, nor forsaketh. — Isaiah 42:16 Author Paraphrase

Whither God Leadeth

God taketh me whither I would not have gone,
By paths unchosen, where my strength is undone.
Through valleys dim, where shadow stretcheth long,
To places where my will at last is overthrown.

I dreameth of roads made fair with gentle light,
Of winds made soft, and burdens feather-slight.
Yet he, who seeth farther than my sight,
Leadeth through storm, and still my soul aright.

Where I clingeth, his hand forthwith releaseth,
Where I withstandeth, his patient mercy increaseth.
He breaketh fast my grasp till striving ceaseth,
And, lo, in yielding, hidden peace he leaseth.

O Potter wise, my yielding clay thou bendest,
Not as I will, but as thy purpose sendest.
Each grievous turn thy perfect wisdom lendeth,
Till marred and broken, thy sure hand amendeth.

And when I stand where once I would have fled,
I bless the path my trembling feet have tread.
For in that place my heart had once misread,
I find my God, whose love hath ever led.
